I was wounded; my honor wasn't.
After reading this article I felt a tremendous amount of respect for the author. I think if someone has the desire to share such a personal story with the world they seem very powerful. She obviously needed a lot of courage to share such a horrific moment in her life. But I think that stories like this are necessary. Many young women don't understand that it's ok to tell someone about abuse that they may face. So when Sohaila Abdulali came out with her account many other girls probably found the strength to confide in someone as well. It may seem a bit graphic however, and this may be where people start to feel uncomfortable. Especially when reading lines like: "where they raped me for several hours" and "set herself on fire and died." These passages give such graphic details that it seems frightening to even consider them facts.
